STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island has gone back in time, with the appearance of the world-famous Delorean sports car at a few spots in the borough.
Several special-edition DMC-12 cars have been produced over the years, and the car is most notably featured as the time machine in the Back to the Future film trilogy in the 1980s.
Twitter user John Raimondi snapped a photo of the famous car on Amboy Road in Eltingville today, and shared it with SILive.
“The high school kids were going crazy over it,” said Raimondi. “They probably never even saw the movies.”
What’s peculiar about the sighting is that the car had a large hook attached to it. “Back to the Future” fans, of course, know that the hook helped relay the 1.21 gigawatts of energy needed to power the flux-capacitor time machine.
Another Twitter user spotted the car on the Verrazano-Narrows bridge, headed for Staten Island, on Saturday.
According to one web post, the car is in the city for a charity event Friday at the Roseland Ballroom.
